A little birdie - 12" page

This little birdie and balloon is from the Birthday Bash Cricut cart. I thought it was a fun little addition to a birthday page for my mama's errr... number which shall not be disclosed... birthday. Dang - if she's that old, think of how old that makes me!!!!! Love you mom. ;)

I totally adore this rainbow-ey polka dot paper and this is my last little scrap of it. I'll have to find s'more.

Donation update from Camp

October's camp raffle was a great success. A note from Dani:

"I just wanted to thank you all so much for coming to October Crop Camp to support Detroit Enterprise Academy's Fun and Fantastic Fridays and the wonderful students there that are working their hardest to learn all that they can in a positive and productive environment. With your help and support we were able to raise $940.17."

The weekend was fantastic as always - and as an added treat I got to do more scrapbooking than usual. Thanks Dani for a wonderful weekend!

Looking forward to January!!

Packing up for camp

I finally took a night off from work to get ready for camp. I have so many projects to pack and I know I'll never get to all of them. I'm so excited to get some girl time this weekend and TOTALLY looking forward to a massage! There are some sweet prizes up for raffle too. Raffle funds will be sent to Detroit Enterprise Academy to be used for their "Fun and Fantastic Fridays", run by Emily Moncion, the schools At-Risk coordinator. Can't wait!

ABC Baby Book (#9-10)

The K & Co Wild Sassafras paper line came with some little cut-outs. I stamped some with journaling blocks, date blocks, etc. I figure for a new mom, it would be really handy to write a quick note and date for different events, then add these to the pre-made pages in the baby gift album once she prints pictures. The scraps came from leftover page scraps, so they will coordinate no matter which pages the tags end up on.
I keep a stack of white tags on hand for my own books. I usually jot a note and date the tags, then use the tags straight on my pages or pick off some details for journaling once I get around to printing pictures.

Well, this is it for the baby book gift album. I hope you found some good ideas in these pages!

ABC Baby Book (#8)

This might possibly be my favorite-favorite page of the entire baby book. I loved this quote I found in a little pad of baby quotes. How perfect is this pirate octopus (Cricut - Create a Critter Cart of course!)

ABC Baby Book (#6-7)

I used lots of scraps for the #6 baby book page. The paper was cut in 1.25" squares and inked around the edges. I added some random animal stickers to those squares and - another page done.

Monday, May 23, 2011

I had a chance to check out the MegaMeet in Novi a couple weeks ago. It was pretty fun - they offered lots of 'classes' teaching technique, displaying new product etc. My favorite class was probably the chipboard family album. It was a quick project, the instructor had all the chipboard and paper precut so we just had to glue - sand - ink. I almost got mine finished within the class time, but wanted to mod-podge the pictures down before adding embellishments, so I had to bring it home for a little more finish work.

The shopping was a little lack-luster. I would have expected better pricing since there were so many vendors selling direct (S.E.I., Xyron, Martha Stewart Crafts, etc) but they were selling at retail prices right alongside the scrap stores.

I finished a half dozen pages and made another half dozen cards at the crop that night. Now, if I could just get some pictures printed...

Zoo Pages - 5 photos

We had a fabulous time at Binder Park Zoo last summer. The giraffes were definitely the highlight of our visit. This cute little giraffe is from the Create A Critter Cricut cart. Have I mentioned that I love that cartridge!?!

Cut list:
(2) 12" orange backgrounds
Black frames:
(2) 3.5 x 5.75"
(2) 4.25 x 5.75"
(1) 4.75 x 3.5"
(1) 4.25 x 10.5" (behind giraffe)
white paper (2) 8.5 x 11"
Blue pattern 11.25 x 3"
blue pattern 5 x 3"
giraffe cut at 9.5"

The letters in this layout are about 2" tall and there a couple brads added for texture. Ink the edges of all the paper with black ink to coordinate with the frames and the letters. For the white that runs behind the giraffe - after the piece was inked, I cut off a small strip of white and moved it under the right side of the giraffe.

ABC Baby Book (#2-3)

Call it OCD or Type A or whatever, but I just can't help my urge for over-organization (is that even a word?). I labeled most of the photo frames in this album so that my sis would know what size to crop her pics to. Yes, she knows how to work a ruler, but I just thought, you know, since she would have a small baby and all, that she might like a quick note on what size would fit in each frame.
Aren't these little giraffe brads the cutest!

The red frame was cut using Cricut Storybook. I used Cricut Plantin Schoolbook to cut multiple scalloped strips at about a 0.5" tall. Several scalloped strips were lined up along the right side of the page and a little section of scallops was added to the left of the frame too.

ABC Baby Book (#1)

Now that all of the alpha pages are posted - here's the start of the baby book number pages. K&Co had a cute set of chipboard number stickers in the same "Wild Saffron" pattern.

Most of the papers here are just solid cardstock, with one of the patterned papers snuck into the background. The red frame was cut using the Storybook Cricut cartridge. Inking the edges of the curvy cutouts can be tricky if you rub the ink pad directly to the paper (as I normally do). Had to break out the fingertip dauber for this project!

How do you catch a leprechaun?

Somewhere in my camera...I have the funniest picture of my daughter wearing khaki shorts, with shamrock socks pulled up to her knees, 'catching' herself in a butterfly net. I thought they would be cute on a little shamrock page - with the label - how do you catch a leprechaun?

The shiny striped paper and some of the solids are from a Colorbok paper line called Woodhaven. There are a couple other solid papers thrown in and shamrocks cut with the Celebrate with Flourish Cricut cartridge. I used pop-up dots on the back of a few of the shamrocks for depth. The top frame will hold a 4 x 6 photo and the bottom will hold two 4 x 3 photos.

Ingredients:
12 x 12" background
8.5 x 11" gray frame
9 x 5" blue frame
7 x 5" green frame
6.5 x 4.5" and 8.5 x 4.5" white frames

Have a lucky St. Pats weekend!

Love Grows Here - 12" Pages

These heart pages were so much fun to make! The papers and some of the embellishments are from a new line at Close to My Heart and I added some pink and red embellishments I had on hand. On the left, I covered the flower petals with clear and red Stickles. On the right, I added some shiny pink fabric paint to the 'love grows' sticker. Yes, I know I'm probably breaking some sort of acid free rule, but I always use whatever supplies I have on hand, whether they're archival or not. Oh well :)

All of the paper edges were inked - some with black ink some with pink ink, just to mix it up a bit. I stamped the polka dots with matching pink ink on the white frame to the right. At the top of the photo, I added a little heart sticker and some red rhinestones. I wish they would show up in the picture. All the bling on these pages is so cute!

Left:
12" patterned background
10" square - white
9 x 4.5" black pattern
4 x 4.5" flower pattern
4 x 4.5" polkadot pattern
Small white frames 4 x 3, 4 x 4 and (2) 3 x 3.5 -or- frames .25" larger than your photos

Right:
12" patterned background
8.5 x 10" white frame
10.75 x 7.5" black pattern

In my glass: H2O - o-oh-o-oh - the right stuff! (sorry, that was my poor attempt at singing like NKOTB)

Cutting Border Designs with the Cricut

Here's a hint on cutting a border to fit your 12 x 12 pages. Typically when you use Sure Cuts Alot or Design Studio, your design will be cut off at a width of 11.5 inches (.25 inch border on each side). SOOO annoying when you want a border to reach all the way across your page! When you open the border pattern in SCAL, rotate the design just slightly and stretch it back out to reach the borders of the cutting mat. This will allow you to cut a slightly wider border that will actually fit a 12x12 page.
My Scrap Chick . com has a totally cute doodle border this week - free download. [Click on the link and scroll to the bottom of the page. http://myscrapchick.com/freebiefriday/2011/2-4bunnieschicks.htm]

This file will work with SCAL on your Cricut.

ABC Baby Book (R-T)

So I didn't have a chipboard R for this page, but I think you get the idea that R is for rainbow. I found this cute little Irish blessing at thinkexist.com to include on the page. I rearranged it a little so that the first line included the word rainbow, but I think it's still a nice little quote, no matter what order it's said in.

The shamrocks were made using a heart stamp - stamp four times then cut around the group. The pot of gold is actually a Cricut Doodlecharm shape - gumball machine - turned upside down!

Scrap Camp Results

We had an excellent time at scrap camp this weekend. I think I finished about 8 pages over 3 days - oh well!

To all of you campers - thank you all for joining me and for your generous donations and purchase of raffle tickets. We were able to raise $875 to donate to the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan this time around. Thank you so much!!!

If you are interested in learning more about the DSAWM or about Down Syndrome, please visit the association's website at http://www.dsawm.org/default.htm.

I'll get around to posting some of my page creations at some point. Right now it's time to prepare for 'Snowmageddon II' in Michigan.

ABC Baby Book (P-Q)

Hear ye, hear ye, I hereby proclaim that the ABC Baby Book has been completed - as a gift for my sis. I couldn't stop with just the alphabet (K&Co had the cutest little number stickers that went with the paper line!) so it took me a little longer than planned. But it's done!! Here are pages P and Q.

She loved it and I hope she fills it up with lots and lots of pictures of her darling little guy. I'll post more pictures later, got to finish packing for camp!!

Camp Updates

Woo-hoo camp is less than two weeks away and I think I'm almost ready. I updated my little camper girl for Winter Camp T-shirts. I got a sweet 'Bamboo' drawing tablet for Christmas and can draw and edit on the computer so naturally now. It's AWESOME.

The T-shirts have been ordered and will be delivered next week. Prizes are in and goodie bags are ready. OK, so we have a little dilemma with getting enough tables and I only have one meal planned, but I'm sure everything will all be resolved soon...right??? Just teasing, I'm too much of a perfectionist not to have it done a week ahead of time. That leaves me all next week to sort through a couple hundred pictures and get them printed, oh yeah, and sketch my page layouts!

In my ear: Booty Music - Yes, that's right, I have a Pandora station for Booty Music. It will make you shake your booty.

In my glass: H2O - straight up.

ABC Baby Book (N-O)

Many thanks to whichever cropper left this cute 'newborn baby' sticker on the swap table at October's Scrap Camp. It was an excellent addition to the N page.
Speaking of camp, I FINALLY had a chance to use my massage gift certificate today. You girls are the best! That was a fabulous gift, I'm so glad I could finally use it. I may have talked the girls ear off, but even so, I felt great at the end of the hour. My hair is sticking straight out from letting her massage my scalp with lotion, but it was soooo worth it.
The shiny ribbon was throwing my camera into fits on the O page. It's really much lighter and prettier in person.
In my ear: Hot Six Janet Evanovich (And yeah, it's HOT!)
In my glass: Sugar Free Swiss Miss with a dash of heavy whipping cream and a shot of peppermint schnapps. Very Cozy.

ABC Baby Book (L-M)

L is for Love and M for Mommy and Me

This little froggy ribbon was used at my sister's baby shower and I think it went pretty well with the color scheme on these pages.

I cut out all the words using Sure Cuts A Lot and different fonts direct from my computer. I'm halfway through the baby book!

In my ear: High Five Janet Evanovich (I'm loving the unabridged version - free from the library!)
